Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
Driving under the influence is just one way that
alcohol (or other drugs) can kill or injure, but it is one of the most frequent
ways, according to public health statistics. In 2005, alcohol-related crashes
killed 580 people in Illinois, or 43%, out of 1, 361 total traffic deaths. 440
of those deaths were attributed to a driver with a .08%+ BAC driver. The
number of persons arrested for DUI in Illinois in 2002 was 51,649. Of those,
785 were arrested in McLean County.
Support for voluntary groups working to prevent and decrease DUI incidents has been crucial
in decreasing DUI fatalities over the past twenty years. These groups have statistics and other
information about DUI, support for victims of DUI, and news about DUI policy initiatives that
