Bloomington-Normal Community Campus Committee (BNCCC)

The BNCCC originally started as the STEPS Sub-Committee of Heartland Coalition in January of 2005. The STEPS sub-committee was formed and functioned as a server-training committee. In August of 2006 the STEPS sub-committee held an expanded meeting in which the sub-committee renamed it to the Bloomington Normal Community Campus Committee and developed a mission statement.

Mission:  To reduce high-risk drinking and related consequences among Bloomington-Normal students.

Vision:  For the Bloomington-Normal community to be a community that is fun, safe, and diverse, operating in integrity and supporting families of all kinds.

In May of 2007 the BNCCC received the Strategic Prevention Framework-State Incentive Grant. This grant was awarded to the BNCCC to address binge drinking among college students at all four local Bloomington Normal colleges/universities.

The BNCCC currently meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at Noon. If you would like more information or would like to attend a BNCCC meeting please contact the Community Project Coordinator, Liz Hamilton at emhamilton@chestnut.org.

Server Training to Encourage Profitable Service (STEPS)

The STEPS mission is to work with the hospitality industry to meet the growing challenge of balancing legal and social responsibilities with demands for running a profitable business and to provide a safe environment that discourages the illegal use of alcohol and illicit drugs among McLean County residents. The STEPS program is run by the BNCCC and currently holds a State of Illinois BASSET license through the Liquor Control Commission. To date McLean County STEPS has trained 175 bar owners, servers, and bartenders in 11 separate server trainings.

Our goals:

  1. Enhance a healthy and safe business climate for the hospitality industry
  2. Decrease underage alcohol use and illegal use of other drugs in McLean County among students.
  3. Develop and enhance the relationship between the community, the hospitality industry and institutions of higher education.
