Resources for Youth

     Groups:

Like most teens you want to enjoy hanging out with your friends without worrying about alcohol or other drug use by others in the group. You may even find yourself so fed up with others’ alcohol problems that you want to do something about it. But how can you influence peers or younger students to stay away from drinking or drugs? We have the answer for you! Join other McLean County teens and participate in a local or statewide drug-free youth leadership group.

The Youth Advisory Board is a local McLean County drug-free leadership group and part of the Heartland Coalition! If you would like more information about teen leadership efforts, contact Heartland Coalition (coalition@chestnut.org) or check out the Youth Advisory Board at their website www.heartlandyab.org.

Besides local groups there are also some great statewide groups of drug-free youth leaders. Two of the most active have websites that you can check out!

     Web Info:

We want to make sure that you get the right information from the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, the problem with getting drug information from the World Wide Web is that many sites are set up by people who use drugs, sell drugs, or just think that drug use is not a problem.

We suggest that for dependable information about drugs or avoiding drugs check this site out http://www.freevibe.com. You can take drug quizzes to test your knowledge, post your thoughts on message boards, and even get information on how to help a friend who you know is using. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, contact Heartland Coalition (coalition@chestnut.org) and let us know.
